SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— Southern Maine Community College and the SeaWolves Athletics Club hosted the 11th annual Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 5, commemorating three inductees and their accomplishments by enshrinement into the Hall of Fame Class of 2016. Rick Disney, Kim (Hunt) Parent, and Michael Worster joined the elite group of 24 individuals. For a complete listing of all Hall of Fame inductees click HERE.
Matt Richards, Associate Dean of Students and Director of Athletics, and Dr. Ronald Cantor, President of SMCC, each began the ceremony with welcome remarks. Dr. Cantor spoke of the power of athletics, both to the individual and for the college campus.
Disney, the first to be inducted, was a member of the 1988-89 Southern Maine Technical College’s (SMTC) baseball teams. He was inducted by his father, Richard Disney Sr., who spoke fondly of his memories coaching his son at the youth level. Disney accounted for 37 percent of his team’s wins in the years he played.
Parent was inducted by Ashley Pulk and Rebecca York, two former teammates of Parent’s as a member of the 2008-11 SeaWolves softball teams. Parent commented on the skills she acquired on the softball diamond and how she has applied them to other areas of her life. Parent ranks first in all-time wins (29) and strikeouts (312); she was named Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Player of the Year in 2010 and led her team to back-to-back conference titles in 2010 and 2011.
Lastly, Worster was celebrated by his brother and former teammate Garrett Worster. Garrett spoke of how he idolized his big brother and his character both on and off the court. Worster was a member of the 2005-08 men’s basketball teams and earned United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-American honors in 2007. He ranks ninth all-time in points scored (1058) and made back-to-back national Final Four appearances as Captain of the SeaWolves.
Eric Bruneau, President of the SeaWolves Athletic Club, concluded the ceremony with his closing remarks and thanked the three inductees for their outstanding contributions to the rich history of SMCC Athletics.
