Late Rally Lifts Seawolves Over Central Maine Community College 8-7
South Portland, ME. The Southern Maine Community College softball team drove in six runs in the last two innings of play to beat conference rival Central Maine Community College 8-7. The Seawolves entered the 7th and final inning down 5-2, but were able to force the extra 8th inning when sophomore Casey Garrapy (Underhill, VT) tied the game with a 2-run triple. CMCC would put up two runs in the top of the 8th to go up 7-5. SMCC scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth before Allyssa Pane (Lawrenceville, GA) drove in Katelyn Benson (Westbrook, ME) to seal the victory.
Seawolves freshmen Katelyn Benson (Westbrook, ME), Charlotte Lewis (Chatham, NH) and Allyssa Pane (Lawrenceville, GA) all went 3-4 at the plate while sophomore Casey Garrapy (Underhill, VT) went 3-3 with 2 singles, 1 triple and 2 RBIs. Lewis earned the win at the mound, pitching all eight innings and tallying eight strikeouts.
SMCC is now 8-17 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Seawolves face Briarcliffe College tomorrow in a home doubleheader starting at 2:00PM.
