Seawolves Crush College of St. Joe's
Rutland, VT. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team rolled over College of St. Joe's (VT) in a doubleheader held in Rutland, VT. The Seawolves combined for 37 hits in 10 innings as both games were run-ruled after the bottom of the 5th.
SMCC won game one 19-1. Freshman pitcher Emily Bard (Fort Kent, ME) got the win throwing a five inning 1-hitter and tallying 8 strikeouts. Leading the offense was freshman Kathryn Gilio (Hampden, ME). Gilio was 3-4 at the plate including 1 homerun.
Game two did not fair much better for College of St. Joe's as SMCC would run away with a 20-0 victory in five innings. Freshman Charlotte Lewis (Chatham, NH) threw a 1-hit shutout over five innings and racked up 7 strikeouts. The Seawolves saw homeruns from Lewis, sophomore Jamie Moody (Cumberland, ME) and freshman Allyssa Pane (Lawrenceville, GA).
SMCC improves to 14-19 overall and an impressive 10-1 in conference play. The Seawolves have gone 7-2 over the past five days. The team now has a brief break to prepare for conference rival Central Maine Community College on Friday, April 20 at 4:00PM.
