Seawolves Earn Conference Win Over Vermont Technical College
The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Seawolves beat the Knights of Vermont Technical College (VTC) this afternoon 49-40. After a frustrating first half, the Seawolves capitalized on good ball movement to overcome VTC's swarming defense.
The Seawolves were led by freshman Marissa Welch's (Livermore, ME) 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Forwards Katelyn Benson (Westbrook, ME) and Kimmie Preston (Portland, ME) chipped in 12 and 8 respectively. The Seawolves were ignited by the intensity of freshman guard Stefanie Saavedra (Portland, ME) who led the team with 8 rebounds, 3 points, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block.
SMCC improves to 14-9 on the season and 10-3 in conference play. The Seawolves are in action again on Tuesday, February 7 when they travel to conference rival Central Maine Community College. Game time is slated for 6:00 PM.
