SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—Director of Athletics Matt Richards has announced Jordan Yanni as the next Head Coach of the well achieved baseball program at Southern Maine Community College.
Prior to joining SMCC, Yanni served as the Windham High School Varsity Assistant, coaching under the direction of Mike Fullerton, for the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
A native of Gray, Maine, Yanni began his collegiate player career at West Virginia Wesleyan, a Division II institution, as a catcher. Following the 2004 and 2005 seasons at West Virginia, Yanni returned home to join one of the nation’s elite Division III programs at the University of Southern Maine. Under the coaching of Ed Flaherty, Yanni blossomed into a defensive standout as his team reached the New England Regional tournament in 2006. Yanni graduated from USM with a degree in Business Administration in 2007.
Yanni worked as a hitting and catching instructor at Frozen Ropes Training Center for several years. He is now also employed by Leaderboard of Boston, providing sponsorship opportunities and other event services to golf tournaments throughout New England.
Director of Athletics Matt Richards stated, “Jordan comes to SMCC with an excellent background with his time at USM and coaching at the high school level. I feel the combination of those two will fit nicely with our program. I’m looking forward to working with Jordan as he continues our tradition of success with the baseball program.”
The SeaWolves baseball program is coming off a 19 win season, an 11-6 conference record, and a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) championship.
Yanni knows the importance of defense and insists, above all, that his club will be defensively sound. Further he explains, “My goal is to run a structured and disciplined program that will allow the student-athletes to succeed on and off the field.”
