South Portland, ME. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team hosted a double header today as they faced Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) opponent the Golden Eagles of Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC). The Seawolves were able to get 2 wins as they held off a late run by the Golden Eagles to earn a 6-5 victory in the first game. In the second game of the double header, a total of 41 runs were scored in a 1 run victory for the Seawolves. Freshman catcher Roberta Trafton (Corinth, ME) hit a walk off double to give SMCC a 21-20 win.
In the first of the double header the Seawolves were led by freshman catcher Roberta Trafton (Corinth, ME) who went 3 of 4 and scored a run. Freshman outfielder Danielle Mobbs (Richmond, VT) added a couple hits going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's and a run scored. Freshman pitcher Lindsey Howell(Limington, ME) got the win in the 6-5 victory.
In the second game, the Seawolves had a total team effort as 9 different players got a hit. To lead the way was the leadoff batter sophomore Antonetta Brown (Portland, ME) who went 5 for 5 with 5 runs scored, 4 stolen bases and drew 2 walks. Freshman catcher Roberta Trafton (Corinth, ME) went 4 for 6 with 3 runs scored, 2 RBI's and the game winning walk off double. Freshman pitcher Lindsey Howell(Limington, ME) picked up her second win of the day.
With both wins today, SMCC improves to 3-9 overall and 3-3 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC). The Seawolves will hit the road tomorrow April 7th as the travel to Dean College for another double header. Game times are scheduled for 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
