Providence, RI. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team traveled to Rhode Island today to take on Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI). After sweeping a double header this weekend, the Seawolves got swept themselves only recording 7 hits combined in both games. In the first game SMCC gave up 8 runs in the second inning to lose in 5 innings by a score of 10-0. In game 2, the Knights offense stayed hot as they beat the Seawolves 12-0 in 5 innings.
In the first game of the double header the Seawolves were led in a losing effort by sophomore outfielder Antonetta Brown (Portland, ME) who went 2 for 2 at the plate and drew a walk. Freshman catcher Roberta Trafton (Corinth, ME) added a hit with freshman pitcher Lindsey Howell (Limington, ME) picked up the loss.
In the second game, the Seawolves continued to struggle offensively as they only had 4 hits. Freshman infielder Lindsey Howell (Limington, ME) led the way going 2 for 2. Freshman catcher Roberta Trafton (Corinth, ME) and sophomore short stop Yaritza Tejada (Chelsea, MA) each contributed a hit. Freshman pitcher Shannon Blanchard (Windsor, ME) took the loss.
With the 2 losses today, SMCC drops to 6-13 overall and remain 6-3 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC). The Seawolves will host a single game on Wednesday April 17th as YSCC rival Central Maine Community College (CMCC) comes back to town. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00pm.
