2026 Student-Athlete Awards Banquet
CAPE ELIZABETH, MAINE - The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletic Department held its annual awards banquet on Tuesday, May 5 at Purpoodock Golf Club in celebration of its student-athletes and the historic accomplishments achieved throughout the 2025-26 academic year and athletic seasons.
CAPE ELIZABETH, MAINE - The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletic Department held its annual awards banquet on Tuesday, May 5 at Purpoodock Golf Club in celebration of its student-athletes and the historic accomplishments achieved throughout the 2025-26 academic year and athletic seasons.
At the event, SMCC President Dr. Kristen Miller commemorated the traditions of SMCC Athletics, while Director of Athletics Ethan Wells reflected on one of the most successful years in department history. Across all programs, SMCC student-athletes combined for a 132-46-5 overall record, good for a .735 winning percentage. The department captured four Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Championships, produced six national tournament qualifying teams, and earned another team and individual national championship.
SMCC Athletics also celebrated academic success throughout the year, highlighted by 64 student-athletes posting GPAs above 3.0 at the semester break.

To conclude the ceremony, SMCC Athletics announced the recipients of its annual department awards.
Leslie Barteaux Scholar Athlete of the Year - Student-Athlete (Male and Female)
This award is given in recognition for excellence in the classroom to the male and female student-athletes with the highest GPA who have accumulated more than 36 credit hours.
Recipients: Sean Bosia (Men’s Basketball, 3.90 GPA) and Meryk Lewellen / Yana Montell (Volleyball, 3.95 GPA)
Seawolves Athletic Club Rookie of the Year (Male and Female)
This award recognizes a male and female student-athlete who quickly adapted to the demands of collegiate athletics and made an immediate impact within their program.

Donald Ferrante Award - Most Improved Athlete (Male and Female)
Presented to the most deserving student-athletes who demonstrated resilience, improvement, and commitment to their teammates.

Carroll Rines Award - Sports Person of the Year (Male and Female)
Presented to the student-athletes who demonstrated outstanding dedication and commitment to their team, the athletic department, and the overall image and success of SMCC Athletics.

Timothy D. Hagerman Scholarship
The Timothy D. Hagerman Scholarship is awarded to a returning student-athlete who puts their team before themselves and serves as a positive member of the college community.

John Dakin Award - Outstanding Contribution
Presented to a non-student-athlete who has gone above and beyond in support of SMCC Athletics through their time, effort, and dedication.
Recipient: Scott Nevers
SMCC Athletics concluded the evening by recognizing the continued support of its coaches, athletic training staff, administration, and community members while wishing the softball team luck as it prepares to defend its national title at the USCAA Small College World Series.
