Seawolves Take Game From NECC
South Portland, ME. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team played their last regular season home game as Northern Essex Community College (NECC) came to town. After going 5-1 in their last 6 games, SMCC continued to roll beating a tough NECC opponent by a score of 6-2. The Seawolves dominated from the mound only giving up 4 hits.
Leading the Seawolves was freshman DH Nate McKeown (Biddeford, ME) who went 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Junior second baseman, last weeks YSCC player of the week, Jeremy Gearty (Lebanon, ME) went 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored and drew a walk. Getting the win on the mound was freshman pitcher Jason Weatherbee (Wiscasset, ME). Freshman Eli Capen (Jay, ME) and Nate McKeown (Biddeford, ME) came in to close out the game without giving up a hit or walk as they retired the last 8 batters.
With the win, SMCC improves to 21-20-1 overall but they remain at 9-1 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC). The Seawolves will host the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) tournament this Saturday April 27th. At 11:00AM, Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC) will play New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) for a spot in the championship game. Following that game, at 1:30PM, SMCC will play the winner for the YSCC championship.
