2013-14 Seawolves Baseball Headlines
South Portland - The SMCC athletic department is pleased to announce that Seawolves pitcher Dylan Morrow (Hays, TX) has signed a summer contract with the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
South Portland- Today’s matchup between the visiting Wolverines of Bridgton Academy and the Seawolves from Southern Maine Community College was game two of the 302 Cup Challenge. This best of three series between the two instate rivals ended with a 6-2 win by the Wolverines securing the 302 Cup to remaining with Bridgton for another year.
South Portland - This afternoon the Seawolves played in their final double header in YSCC conference play at home against the Jaguars of Nashua Community College. In game one Seawolves' centerfielder Alex Brown (Weymouth, MA) went 3-4 at the plate with an in-the-park homerun, a triple and six RBIs to propel SMCC to a 12-1 victory in five innings of play. In the second game an impressive defensive effort by SMCC held Nashua scoreless as the Seawolves rolled to a 5-0 win.
South Portland - The Seawolves picked up two wins today in double header action against NJCAA member Dean College. In a close fought, low scoring battle the Seawolves overcame the Bulldogs in game one by a score of 2-0. The second game saw more productivity on the offensive end of the game as both teams put up more runs but the Seawolves still came away with the win, prevailing 6-3.
South Portland - This afternoon in YSCC conference baseball double header action the Lynx of NHTI traveled to south Portland to take on the Seawolves of SMCC. In game one the Seawolves scored nine of their total twelve runs in the third inning en route to a 12-5 victory over the Lynx. In game two Seawolves' pitcher Corey Mongiat (Waterboro, ME) threw twelve strikeouts to help lead the Seawolves to a 11-7 triumph.
South Portland - This afternoon the Seawolves faced off against YSCC member Eastern Maine Community College in a single contest in which Seawolves' pitcher Nate Boyle (Windham, ME) gave up only one hit en route to a 10-0 Seawolves victory.
South Portland - In this afternoon's baseball double header action the Seawolves split with Navy Prep, falling in the first game 12-3 and rallying in the second game to mercy rule the Rams by a score of 11-1.
South Portland - After a large personnel change between the fall and spring seasons the Seawolves struggled to adjust and put together a complete game and defeat their opponents. But in this afternoon's double header against the Owls of the University of Maine - Presque Isle the Seawolves were relentless. In game one they came out swinging, getting four hits and four runs in the first inning, eventually defeating UMPI 8-1. In the second game the Seawolves had a commanding fourth inning, racking up five runs en route to their 6-1 victory.
South Portland - In this afternoon's baseball action the Seawolves jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first over the Knights from Northern Essex Community College, but the Knights clawed back to go ahead 3-2 in the top of the third. The momentum of the Knights carried them through nine innings as they overcame the Seawolves 11-4.
Franklin, MA - This afternoon the Seawolves battled NJCAA member Dean College and despite keeping the games close each contest slipped away from the Seawolves, losing the first game 9-3 and the second 4-3.
South Portland - This afternoon's chilly temperatures did not deter the Seawolves from taking on the Wolverines of Bridgton Academy in their home opener. After a seven game stretch on the road the Seawolves were finally put to the test on their own turf. Three scoreless innings passed before the Wolverines struck in the fourth going ahead 1-0. Bridgton tacked on two more runs in the fifth putting the Seawolves at three run deficit. In innings five and six the Bridgton defenseretired the side in order in both innings. In the bottom of the seventh the Seawolves put two runners on base but couldn't generate the offense to bring them home and fell to the Wolverines 3-0.
Patchogue, NY - The Seawolves' baseball team traveled to Briarcliffe College this afternoon where they dropped two games to the Bulldogs, unable to snap out of their thus far sluggish start to the spring season.
Newport News, VA - In the final game of the Seawolves spring road trip they battled Thomas Nelson Community College for the second time, in this outing TNCC slipped by the Seawolves 5-4.
Newport News, VA - The baseball team continued their preseason play in Virginia this afternoon against Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) from Hampton, Virginia. The Seawolves committed seven errors, allowing TNCC to put up nine runs en route to a 9-6 loss.
Newport News, VA - The Seawolves baseball team opened up their spring season yesterday afternoon in Newport News, VA with a double header against the Dolphins from the College of Albermarle located in North Carolina and the Shipbuilders of the The Apprentice School, the tournament host.
South Portland - In this afternoons NECA baseball tournament semifinal action the Lynx from NHTI jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Seawolves in the third inning and remained in the lead for the entirety of the game. Despite a big push from the Seawolves in the seventh inning they fell short, losing 6-7.
