Nic Lops returned as Head Baseball Coach at Southern Maine Community College in 2026 after previously leading the Seawolves from 2021-24.

During his first tenure, Lops guided the Seawolves to a 74-40 overall record and three consecutive Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Championships. His teams earned an at-large berth to the 2022 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Small College World Series, while he was named YSCC Coach of the Year in each of his three seasons at the helm. Lops has coached numerous All-Conference, All-American, and Academic All-American student-athletes while building a program centered on character, accountability, and player development.

Prior to SMCC, Lops held the role of Hitting Coach and Assistant Coach at his alma mater, Saint Joseph's College of Maine, for three seasons. A four-year starter as a catcher and infielder for Coach Will Sanborn and the Monks, Lops graduated with both his Bachelor of Arts in English (2015) and Master of Science in Education (2016).

Following his college career, Lops played one summer of independent professional baseball with the Watertown Bucks before landing at Daniel Webster College as Assistant Baseball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. In addition, Lops gained administrative experience working as the Assistant Director of Athletics and Activities at Cheverus High School during the 2017-18 academic year.

In addition to his duties with SMCC, Lops continues to serve as an Education Technician at Cape Elizabeth High School and as Head Coach of the Sanford Mainers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL). Under his leadership, the Mainers have advanced to four consecutive NECBL semifinal appearances and reached the 2024 NECBL Championship Series. Lops was named the Joel Cooney NECBL Manager of the Year in both 2022 and 2024.

Lops resides in South Portland with his wife, Cyrena, and son, Landon.
