SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) sophomore Sean Bosia has been named the 2026 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Year, becoming the first student-athlete in SMCC history to receive the national honor.
Bosia, a Pre-Engineering major from Dracut, Massachusetts, has established himself as a leader in the SMCC community through success in the classroom, leadership on campus, and his performance on the court. He currently carries a 3.9 GPA and plans to continue his studies in Mechanical Engineering following his time at SMCC.
Beyond academics and athletics, Bosia has made a lasting impact on the SMCC community through his leadership and service. Two years ago, he helped co-found the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) chapter at SMCC, which has since grown into an active student organization focused on fellowship, personal development, and spiritual growth.
Bosia is also a dedicated contributor to the SMCC Athletics Department through several student-worker roles. He has served as a line judge during volleyball season, assisted with soccer matches, and helped manage daily athletic facility operations, consistently demonstrating reliability and enthusiasm in supporting the community around him.
In addition to his campus involvement, Bosia is a frequent presence in the Student-Athlete Academic Success Center, where he not only focuses on his own academic success but also helps fellow student-athletes with coursework, contributing to the collaborative culture within SMCC Athletics.
On the court, Bosia served as team captain for the Seawolves and a two-year starter for the program. During the 2025-26 season, he started all 26 regular season games, averaging 10.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while leading the team with 50 steals. Known for his defense, Bosia often drew the assignment of guarding the opposing team’s top scorer.
His performance earned him Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Player of the Week honors during Week 8, and he is also a two-time YSCC All-Academic selection, further highlighting his ability to balance athletic success with academic excellence.
“Sean represents everything we strive for in a student-athlete,” said SMCC Athletic Director Ethan Wells. “His leadership, character, and commitment to both his teammates and the campus community make him truly deserving of this honor.”
Bosia’s selection as the USCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Year marks a historic milestone for the Seawolves and represents the culture of SMCC athletics.
