Seawolves Set for USCAA Division II National Championship in Buffalo
PORTLAND, Maine — The Southern Maine Community College men’s basketball team is headed to Buffalo, New York as the No. 3 seed in the 2026 USCAA Division II Men’s Small College Basketball National Championship.
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The Southern Maine Community College men’s basketball team is headed to Buffalo, New York as the No. 3 seed in the 2026 USCAA Division II Men’s Small College Basketball National Championship.
The 10-team single-elimination tournament tips off March 3 and concludes with the national championship game on Saturday, March 7 at Erie Community College.
Southern Maine enters at 23-6 overall and will make its 16th appearance at the national tournament. The Seawolves last competed in 2024 and captured the program’s first national championship in 2022.
Under Head Coach Matt Richards, Associate Head Coach AJ Burton, and Assistant Coaches Ian Regan, Zachary Mickle, and John LeMieux - SMCC is led by:
- Chance Mercier – 18.7 points per game
- Ellis Macea – 8.3 rebounds per game
OPENING MATCHUP
The Seawolves will open play in Round 2 on Wednesday, March 4 at 10:30 p.m. at Villa Maria College against No. 6 seed Miami-Hamilton who enters at 12-10 and returns as the defending national champion. The Harriers are led by Kaleb Wanamaker (18.2 ppg) and Terrell Pollard (6.3 rpg).
With the tournament set in a single-elimination format, every game carries championship implications from the opening tip.
THE ROAD AHEAD
A win Wednesday would send the Seawolves into Friday’s semifinal round. The national championship game is scheduled for Saturday, March 7th at 8 p.m.
