AUBURN, Maine — The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team dropped a road conference matchup to Central Maine CC on Wednesday night, falling 75–63 at Kirk Hall. The Seawolves move to 6–4 overall and 2–4 in YSCC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SMCC opened with energy, getting an early score from Nathan Mugisha (Rwanda, East Africa) who drilled a three within the opening minute. Ellis Macea (Lawrence, Mass.) scored in the paint, followed by a corner three from Chance Mercier (Ellsworth, Maine) to put the game 8–6 at the 14:36 mark.
CMCC responded quickly, generating a run fueled by transition scoring and interior touches that pushed the Mustangs ahead 130–17 with 6:22 left in the first half. Sean Bosia (Dracut, Mass.) stopped the run with a drive at 3:41, then added a pair of free throws. A three from Sam DeWitt (Hudson, N.H.) left the score at 27-37 in favor of CMCC at the halfway point.
The Seawolves opened the second half with a 4-0 run to chip away at the gap. A flurry of mustang fouls put the Seawolves at the line for the most of the second half. Ebe Efosa-Aguobor (Lawrence, MA) connected on a free throw to bring the Seawolves within three at the 11:47 mark.
CMCC answered with timely buckets, pushing the lead back to double digits entering the final minutes. Despite Mercier scoring his 20th point on a late baseline finish and a jumper from Bosia, the Seawolves couldn't close the gap.
