Softball Holds Moment of Silence for Tragic Events at the Boston Marathon
South Portland, ME. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team hosted Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) rival Central Maine Community College (CMCC) today for the 4th time in this spring season. Today the Seawolves and the Mustangs put their rivalry aside as they stood together behind home plate for a moment of silence for those affected by the event that took place at the Boston Marathon.
The Seawolves started out slow as CMCC had the hot bat taking a 4-0 lead in the 2nd inning. SMCC made a run late in the game scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit as the Mustangs held on to win 12-9 .
Leading the Seawolves was freshman catcher Roberta Trafton (Corinth, ME) who went 2 for 3 at the plate while scoring 2 runs and drawing a walk. Freshman pitcher Lindsey Howell (Limington, ME), sophomore infielder Yaritza Tejada (Chelsea, MA) and freshman short stop Shannon Blanchard (Windsor, ME) each added 2 hits and scored a combined 4 runs. Pitcher Lindsey Howell (Limington, ME) picked up the loss.
With the loss today to CMCC, SMCC drops to 6-14 overall and down to 6-4 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC). The Seawolves will have the rest of the week off before traveling to YSCC opponent New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) this Saturday, April 20th for a double header. Games will be held at 11:00AM and 1:00PM.
