South Portland, ME. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team played their second double header in 2 days as they hosted Dean College for their last regular season games. In game 1, the Seawolves offense couldn't get started as they were only able to get 4 hits leading to 5-3 loss. In game 2, the Seawolves were able to keep Dean from scoring in the final 3 innings of the game sending them to 9-6 victory.
Leading the Seawolves in game 1 was freshman short stop Shannon Blanchard (Windsor, ME) who went 2 for 2 at the plate, drew a walk and scored 2 of SMCC's 3 runs. Sophomore outfielder Yaritza Tejada (Chelsea, MA) went 1 for 3 and scored the other SMCC run. Picking up the loss in game 1 was freshman pitcher Lindsey Howell (Limington, ME).
In game 2, freshman center fielder Kathryn Chicoine (Athol, MA) led the Seawolves to victory as she went 3 for 3 at the plate, including a double. Chicoine also had 2 RBI's, scored twice and drew a walk. Sophomore outfielder Yaritza Tejada (Chelsea, MA) scored a run while going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Freshman Danielle Mobbs (Richmond, VT) also went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's and drew a walk. Freshman pitcher Shannon Blanchard (Windsor, ME) earned herself the victory.
With the split today, SMCC moves to 7-17 overall and remains at 6-6 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC). The Seawolves will have the week off before traveling to New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) Saturday, April 27th for the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) tournament. Their opponent and game time has yet to be announced.
