Concord, NH - This afternoon the Lady Lynx of NHTI were out to avenge the 1-0 loss they were handed by the Lady Seawolves in last spring's YSCC championship game and avenge they did, as they defeated SMCC in both games of today's double header. In game one the Lynx came out on top 7-3 and in game two they squeaked out a one run victory 8-7.
NHTI pitcher Tori Lemay dominated on the mound pitching the first four innings of game one with ten strikeouts and zero hits helping the Lady Lynx jump out to a 5-0 heading in to the fifth inning. The Lady Seawolves appeared to come to life in the fifth when Anna Allard (Parsonsfield, ME), Emily Turner (Lewiston, ME) and Kathryn Gilio (Hampden, ME) all put a run on the board to pull SMCC to within two, 5-3. NHTI tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 7-3, which would hold until the end of the game.
Allard, Gilio and Melinda Pye (Bucksport, ME) picked up the three hits for the Lady Seawolves. NHTI's leadoff batter Masha Lange led the Lady Lynx offense going four for four at the plate with three runs, three stolen bases and two RBIs.
In game two the Seawolves took the early lead, up 4-3 at the end of the first inning and held onto a lead, 7-6, going into the bottom of the final inning. Costly errors in the bottom of the seventh by SMCC allowed NHTI to score a tying run and eventually a winning run to get the 8-7 victory.
Gilio led the Seawolves' offense in game two going 3-5 with a run and two RBI's. NHTI threw a trio of pitchers in game two Allison Laroche, Arianna Hancock and Tori Lemay but it was Lemay who once again picked up the win, going 2-0 on the day.
The Lady Seawolves are now sporting a 2-2 overall record and will be back in action on September 18th at Eastern Maine CC at 4:30pm.
