South Portland - The Lady Seawolves had a much better showing this afternoon in their matchup against the Wildcats of the University of New Hampshire, although they came up short in both contests.
In the first game, pitcher Erica Brochu (Lewiston, ME) and the Seawolves' defense were able to keep the Wildcats off the scoreboard through six innings. Tied 0-0 heading into the seventh, UNH was able to string together a handful of well placed hits to bring three runners across the plate and take the game, 3-0.
In game two, SMCC found their way onto the scoreboard early, taking a 3-0 lead after one inning while scoring their first runs of the fall season. The Seawolves relinquished the lead in the second inning when the Wildcats chalked up four runs to take a 4-3 lead. As the game progressed the impact of the Seawolves injuries became evident. Backup pitcher Lindsay Marston (Rumford, ME) had been sidelined due to a hip injury, forcing Brochu to pitch four complete games in two days. The Wildcats were able to take advantage and come away with a decisive 14-4 win.
The Lady Seawolves will have a week to rest and recover before they host the Mustangs of CMCC on Friday September 25th for a double header at 2 and 4pm.
