South Portland - The Lady Seawolves opened up their spring season against the Knights of Northern Essex. As the Seawolves struggled to work the kinks out, the Knights rolled to a 19-1 victory.
After a rough first inning the Seawolves trailed by double-digits, 10-0, but a pitching change closed out the inning and slowed the Knights' offensive fire power. The Seawolves held the Knights to nine runs in the remaining four innings. Entering the bottom of the fifth chasing a 19 run lead, Seawolves' center fielder Abigail Nielsen (North Yarmouth, ME) got on base after being hit by a pitch and stole second to put herself in scoring position. Two walked batters loaded the bases for SMCC and an error by the Northern Essex third baseman brought Nielsen home, putting the Seawolves on the scoreboard and avoiding the shutout.
With this loss the Seawolves fall 2-8 on the year. They will be back in action on Friday at CCRI for a double header starting at 3pm.
