South Portland - Yesterday afternoon the Lady Seawolves hosted the Broncos of SUNY-Delhi in USCAA softball action. The Broncos made a huge scoring push in the fifth and sixth innings to come away with a 16-3 win in game one and they took a 10-2 victory in game two.
The Seawolves let up three runs in the first inning of game one but battled back when Abigail Nielsen (North Yarmouth, ME) singled and then first baseman Jen Genthner (Newcastle, ME) batted her in to put SMCC on the scoreboard and cut the lead to 3-1. The Broncos chalked up one run in both the third and fourth innings but the Seawolves answered with two in the bottom of the fourth to keep the lead at just two. However the Broncos found their offensive rythmn in the fifth scoring five runs and then tacked on six more in the sixth to walk away with the game. Grace Davis (Belfast, ME) led the Seawolves offense, going 3-3 at the plate, including a double.
In game two the Broncos put up runs in every inning and the Seawolves offense came out flat, scoring two runs, one by Maddie Wade (Brunswick, ME) and one by Sarah Murphy (Scarborough, ME). This game Nielsen paced the Seawolves with a 2-3 performance at the plate.
The Lady Seawolves are now 7-14 on the season and will be back on the field this afternoon for a double header against the College of St. Joseph's (VT) at 3:30 and 5pm.
