Concord, NH - This afternoon the Lady Seawolves traveled to NHTI to face off against the Fighting Saints of CSJ in first round YSCC postseason action. Despite holding the Saints to the lowest number of runs in any of the eight meetings between the two teams this season, the Seawolves could not get anything rolling on offense and fell 4-0.
CSJ pitcher Maggie Miller had the Seawolves rattled on offense from the very beginning when she started the game with two strikeouts. In the top of the second the Seawolves were able to shake it off and get themselves in a position to score when Michaela Willwerth (South Portland, ME) was walked, advanced to second on a Jennifer Genthner (Newcastle, ME) ground out and then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by catcher Rachel Cutler (North Yarmouth, ME). Unfortunately the inning ended on a fly out that left Willwerth stranded on third base.
In the bottom of the second the Saints got two runners on a base before a costly Seawolves error and a walk scored the first CSJ run. The Seawolves got out of the inning trailing just 1-0 but the Saints managed to tack on two more runs in the third thanks to an RBI from Miller. The Seawolves managed to get two runners in scoring position in the fourth before a pop out third out left them empty handed. CSJ snuck in one more run in the fifth to secure the 4-0 lead and advance to the YSCC postseason finals.
The Lady Seawolves will end the 2015-16 season 4-23 overall and 2-13 in conference play.
