SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball program will get back to action next weekend after a 1-8 start in the fall. The Seawolves host the University of New England (UNE) club team on Sunday, Mar. 26 at Graves Athletic Field.
Head Coach Chris Caswell is excited to start his first spring and continue building up the SMCC program. He also highlighted a few players that will prove to be key contributors as the Seawolves look to take on an 18-game slate. “Erica Hill will be in the circle pitching for us. Erica has worked tirelessly this winter and we’re looking forward to seeing that hard work show on the mound for us! Our captains Emma Cousins and Ronnie Anderson are poised to build off strong performances from their fall seasons; and Hailie Casey and Chloe Truman should both lock down our infield defensively.”
SMCC will play a 4-game set with Central Maine Community College (CMCC), its other Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) competition. Non-conference competition features club programs from UNE, University of Maine, and University of New Hampshire. The Seawolves will be challenged by NCAA opponents in Thomas College and University of Maine at Farmington; and NJCAA powerhouse Community College of Rhode Island.
CMCC will be host to the 2023 YSCC Championships in Auburn, Maine on Saturday, May 6—a tournament the Seawolves were last crowned in 2014. The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Small College World Series is scheduled to begin Sunday, May 14 in DuBois, Penn.
