GAME ONE
SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball dropped the opener of Thursday's conference doubleheader, falling 7-5 to the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) at Graves Athletic Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Moose struck for three runs in the first inning and built a 6-1 advantage through four. The Seawolves battled back in the fifth with a four-run frame, highlighted by a two-run double from Ariana Cross (Orrington, Maine) and a two-RBI single from Jayden Tripp (Prospect, Maine).
Sloan Scotvold (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) added two hits and scored twice, while Myranda Caddy (Lacombe, Alberta) contributed two hits and a run.
Defensively, SMCC committed nine errors that proved costly. Scotvold worked 5.2 innings in the circle before Mackenzie McAvoy (Albion, Maine) recorded the final four outs.

GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SMCC answered back in game two, using a three-run first inning and a late push to earn a 5-4 victory and to split on the day.
Carly Youngblood (Tracy, New Brunswick) plated the first run with an RBI single, followed by an RBI double from Sloan Scotvold. Mackenzie McAvoy added an RBI groundout to make it 3-0 after one.
UMA rallied to tie the game 3-3 in the third with a two-run double, but the Seawolves broke through in the seventh. Scotvold tripled and scored on McAvoy's walk-off RBI to clinch the win.
Scotvold finished 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and two RBIs. Hayley Cowan (Red Deer, Alberta) chipped in a hit and scored a run. Cassidy Dunham (Keene, N.H.) earned the win with a complete-game effort in the circle.
