HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 2-0 in the second inning, SMCC responded in the third when Ella Voth (Lacombe, Alberta) doubled and later came around to score on an error, cutting the deficit in half.
SMCC took control in the fourth inning, plating three runs on a series of timely hits. Emma Hartt (Edmonton, Alberta) and Drea Rideout (Yarmouth, Maine) reached base to set things up, and Taylor Swift (Keene, N.H.) delivered an RBI single to tie the game. Voth followed with a two-run double, giving the Seawolves a 4-2 advantage.
CCRI battled back to even the score at 4-4 in the sixth inning, capitalizing on a double and a Seawolves miscue.
The Seawolves answered in the seventh with Hayley Cowan (Red Deer, Alberta) leading off with a single before Voth struck again, tripling to right field to bring home the go-ahead run. Later in the inning, Ariana Cross (Orrington, Maine) drove in an insurance run on a groundout, securing the 6-4 win.
