GAME ONE
SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE — The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team opened Friday's doubleheader by shutting out CCRI, 8-0, in five innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seawolves jumped out early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning behind an Ariana Cross (Orrington, Maine) single to push home Drea Rideout (Yarmouth, Maine) and a Sloan Scotvold (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) RBI to drive in Cross from the basepaths.
SMCC added another run in the second inning as Ella Voth (Lacombe, Alberta, Canada) doubled to center field to extend the lead to 3-0.
The offense broke things open in the third inning, with Cross and Scotvold each delivering RBI doubles, followed by a Carly Youngblood (Tracy, New Brunswick, Canada) RBI single to push the advantage to 6-0.
SMCC continued to apply pressure in the fourth, as Rideout launched a solo home run to center field and Scotvold added another RBI double to cap off the 8-0 victory.

GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED
CCRI struck first with a run in the opening inning, but SMCC answered in the second when Voth delivered an RBI single to even the score.
The Seawolves took control in the third inning, erupting for four runs behind a two-run double from Taylor Swift (Keene, N.H.), an RBI triple from Scarlet Proc (Sydney, NSW, Australia), and an RBI double from Voth to build a 5-1 lead.
After CCRI cut into the deficit with a two-run home run in the sixth, Southern Maine responded in the bottom half as Rideout launched a solo home run to push the lead 6-2.
SMCC held off a late push to secure the 6-4 win and complete the sweep.
