Athletics Engagement and Academic Report: Spring 2024

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— At the conclusion of the semester, Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Associate Dean of Athletics and Alumni Affairs Matt Richards published the findings of the semi-annual Spring 2024 Athletics Engagement and Academic Report. The report shows student-athlete GPAs and retention rates based on United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) normal progress rules for athletic participation eligibility—a higher threshold than those standards of the College.

SMCC Athletics celebrates student-athletes with annual awards banquet

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletic Department held its annual awards banquet on Tuesday, May 7 at Purpoodock Golf Club in celebration of its student-athletes and their many successes throughout the 2023-24 academic year and athletic seasons.

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletic Department has announced the resignation of former Head Women’s Basketball Coach Katie Stannard.

Seawolves conclude season with consolation loss at national tournament

PETERSBURG, Va.—The #8-seeded Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball team was defeated 66-52 by #2 Penn State University Beaver in a consolation game at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national tournament on Tuesday, Mar. 12.

#8 Women’s Basketball falls to #1 JWU- Charlotte in USCAA quarters

PETERSBURG, Va.—The #8-seeded Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball team was defeated 62-37 by #1 Johnson & Wales University- Charlotte in the quarterfinal round of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national tournament on Monday, Mar. 11.

York’s 20-point fourth quarter powers #8 SMCC over #9 Five Towns at national tournament

PETERSBURG, Va.—The #8-seeded Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball team defeated #9 Five Towns College 64-55 in the opening round of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national tournament on Sunday, Mar. 10.

Women’s Basketball falls to UMA in YSCC semis

CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball team suffered a 67-60 loss to the #2-seeded Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta in the semifinal round of the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) playoff tournament on Saturday, Mar. 2.

#3 Women’s Basketball beats #6 Great Bay to advance to YSCC semis

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball team rolled the #6 Herons from Great Bay Community College (GBCC) 95-49 in the quarterfinal round of the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) playoff tournament Saturday, Feb. 24.

Women’s Basketball claims victory in regular season finale

RANDOLPH, Vt.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball team completed the regular season sweep over the Knights from Vermont State University- Randolph 74-62 on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Lady Seawolves edged 63-60 at Norwich University

NORTHFIELD, Vt.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball team was narrowly defeated by the Cadets of Norwich University (NCAA Div. 3) 63-60 on the road Thursday, Feb. 1.

Another team effort lifts women’s basketball over NHTI

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball team took down NHTI for the second time this season, rolling the Lynx 89-36 on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
