SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team clawed back from a slow start but came up short in its first countable game of the 2025–26 season, falling 66–50 to Thomas College on Wednesday night at The HUB.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Thomas too the early lead, closing the first quarter on a 16–2 run. Sophomore forward Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) scored the opening bucket for SMCC, but the Terriers capitalized on second-chance points and a strong interior start from Pryelle Kesse-Beda.
SMCC settled in during the second quarter. Skyler Tinker (Trescott Twp., Maine) scored off the bench, and Taylor Renna (Pembroke, N.H.) knocked down a three to spark the offense. Julia Reed (Gorham, Maine) added a buzzer-beating triple to trim the halftime deficit to 38–20.
The Seawolves' best stretch came in the third. Free throws from sophomore guard Milo Seams (South Paris, Maine) and a Trueman finish inside set the tone for a 19–12 SMCC advantage in the frame. Tinker continued to earn trips to the line, while sophomore center Darby Flanagan (Dresden, Maine) delivered back-to-back layups and added a defensive spark in the paint. A late put-back from Trueman brought the Seawolves within striking distance heading to the fourth.
SMCC kept the pressure on. Reed knocked down a free throw, sophomore Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) drilled a transition three, and Flanagan connected from deep before Mullen scored again at the rim — cutting the deficit to 57–48. Trueman added another inside finish to make it 59–50 with under three minutes remaining, but Thomas closed the game on a 9–0 run to secure the 66–50 final.
