SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team delivered a complete showing on Tuesday night, passing Great Bay Community College 123–51 at The HUB.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SMCC came out firing and never looked back. First-year guard Julia Reed (Gorham, Maine) scored early in transition, Kylie Young (Westbrook, Maine) buried two threes, and sophomore forward Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) controlled the glass as the Seawolves created for a 26–15 first-quarter lead.
In the second, Reed attacked downhill for scores and assists, Young hit another pair of threes, and first-year guard Mckenna Johnson (Gardiner, Maine) knocked down two jumpers as SMCC hung 36 points in the quarter. Taylor Renna (Pembroke, N.H.) added nine first-half points off the bench, giving the Seawolves a 62–30 advantage at halftime.
The third quarter saw Trueman commanding the paint, while Renna stayed hot from deep, and Mia Gumaa (Manchester, N.H.) scored twice in transition. Katie Lozoraitis (Falmouth, Maine) opened the half with a pair of put-backs and eventually finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. SMCC outscored Great Bay 31–12 in the frame to stretch the lead to 93–42 entering the fourth.
The Seawolves' depth closed the door. Darby Flanagan (Dresden, Maine) posted eight fourth-quarter points in the low post, Emily Clark (Berwick, Maine) added steady rebounding and scoring, and Gumaa hit a late three as SMCC past the 100-point mark and finished the night at 123.
