HAVERHILL, Mass. — The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team delivered another great all-around performance on the road, rolling past Northern Essex Community College 76–30 on Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SMCC set the tone early with defensive pressure and control of the glass. First-year guard Julia Reed (Gorham, Maine) attacked in transition, while sophomore forward Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) established a presence inside with second-chance opportunities. The Seawolves jumped out to a 19-9 lead after one, forcing turnovers and limiting Northern Essex to single-digit scoring.
The margin continued throughout the second quarter as SMCC's depth made an impact. SMCC held Northern Essex to just six points in the period and went into halftime with a 37-15 advantage.
After the break. Reed collected more steals and finishes while Darby Flanagan (Dresden, Maine) protected the paint. Taylor Renna (Pembroke, N.H.) cashed in a pair of threes and SMCC continued to win the rebounding battle and pushed the lead to 54-24 entering the fourth.
The Seawolves closed the game with a strong final quarter, spreading the scoring across the lineup. SMCC's defense remained relentless to seal the 46-point road victory.
