HOW IT HAPPENED
SMCC opened the game on a 7-0 run behind Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, NH) and an early three from Ashley Mullen (Oakland, ME). The Seawolves controlled the glass and forced turnovers throughout the first quarter, taking a 19-12 lead after one.
The second quarter saw SMCC extend its advantage with steady production from the bench and continued pressure on defense. Darby Flanagan (Dresden, ME) worked inside, while Mullen capped the half with a three to give the Seawolves a 34-16 advantage at the break.
Holyoke responded in the third, trimming the deficit to pull within 46-36 entering the fourth. The hosts continued to chip away early in the final period, cutting the lead to single digits.
SMCC answered when Julia Reed (Gorham, ME) knocked down a key three and added late finishes in transition, while Trueman and Kylie Young (Westbrook, ME) helped seal the win with interior baskets in the final minutes to put the game away.
