Down to the Wire: Seawolves Push Past Bengals

HOW IT HAPPENED
McKenna Johnson (Gardiner, Maine) opened the scoring for the SeaWolves with a field goal and two free throws. Fort Kent and SMCC traded early baskets before Julia Reed (Gorham, Maine) knocked down SMCC's first 3-pointer of the game to keep the momentum moving.
Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) added three consecutive layups to help SMCC build an early advantage. The SeaWolves led 23-19 at the end of the first quarter.
SMCC carried its momentum into the second quarter. Kylie Young (Westbrook, Maine) scored early, and Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) connected on a 3-pointer to extend the lead. The teams went back and forth for most of the quarter, and Fort Kent took a 40-38 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Mullen scored to open the second half, and Reed followed with another 3-pointer as SMCC regained the lead. Both teams continued to trade baskets throughout the third quarter, with the SeaWolves holding a 62-59 advantage heading into the fourth.
Reed hit another 3-pointer early in the final quarter, and Skyler Tinker (Trescott Twp., Maine) followed with a field goal as SMCC continued to answer Fort Kent's runs down the stretch.

- Skyler Tinker: nine points, seven rebounds
SMCC won the rebounding battle and shot 44.3% from the field (31 of 70). The SeaWolves also went 4 of 8 from 3-point range (50%).
UP NEXT
The SeaWolves (20-5, 11-2) return to the HUB on Wednesday at 6 p.m. to host Central Maine Community College in a rivalry matchup. The game will also serve as a Spirit Week event, Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night, and Student Athlete Appreciation Night! Fans are encouraged to wear navy blue or white and cheer on the SeaWolves.
