Seawolves Women's Basketball Season Comes to a Close

The Seawolves put together a fantastic 2025-26 campaign, finishing 21-7 overall and 11-3 in conference play, earning the program's longest win streak since the 2011-12 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UMA came out firing from deep, knocking down four first-quarter three-pointers to build an early cushion. Bella Petrocci connected from beyond the arc twice in the opening minutes as the Moose surged ahead 24-11 after one.
SMCC settled in during the second quarter. Julia Reed (Gorham, Maine) sparked a run with back-to-back threes and a transition finish, while Milo Seams (South Paris, Maine) and Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) contributed buckets to cut the deficit. The Seawolves trailed 42-32 at halftime but had found their rhythm.
The third quarter turned into a defensive grind. Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) and Kylie Young (Westbrook, Maine) attacked the rim, and Skyler Tinker (Trescott Twp., Maine) provided an essential spark off the bench. SMCC outscored UMA 15-10 in the frame to pull within 52-47 heading into the fourth.
The final quarter saw a Young three-pointer at the 6:51 mark that trimmed the deficit to one. A Mullen free throw gave SMCC a 63-62 lead midway through the quarter. After multiple lead changes, Tinker split a pair at the line to tie the game 70-70 with 46 seconds remaining.
UMA executed in the closing seconds, converting four free throws in the final second to secure the 74-70 win.

A SEASON IN REVIEW
SMCC women's basketball delivered a great season finishing 21-7 overall and 11-3 in YSCC play under second-year head coach Rachele Burns.
The 11 consecutive victories marked the longest win streak in over a decade, highlighted a trip to the YSCC Tournament Semifinals.
The Seawolves held opponents to just 55.8 points per game and limiting teams to 31.6% shooting from the field while foricing 25.0 turnovers per contest and averaging 14.6 steals per game, routinely converting defensive pressure into transition scoring opportunities. The Seawolves also crashed the glass, finishing with a +10.0 rebounding margin and averaging 45.0 rebounds per game. The result was a +21 scoring margin across 28 games and one of the program's most efficient defensive campaigns in recent memory.
Offensively, SMCC averaged 76.8 points per game while shooting 40.3% from the field and 31.5% from three-point range.
Freshman guard Julia Reed emerged as one of the top YSCC's players, earning All-Conference honors after averaging 13.5 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.8 steals per game. Reed was named YSCC Player of the Week three times and earned a USCAA Player of the Week selection, capping an exceptional debut season.
Sophomore guard Ashley Mullen joined Reed on the All-Conference team and reached a career milestone, surpassing 100 career three-pointers during the season. Mullen averaged 10.5 points per game while shooting 38.3% from beyond the arc and was also named a USCAA Academic All-American. First-year guard Mckenna Johnson added a YSCC Player of the Week honor, while freshman Kylie Young provided steady production with 9.8 points and 3.3 assists per game in 25 starts. Inside, captain Jade Trueman anchored the frontcourt, averaging 8.7 rebounds per game and helping lead SMCC's dominant rebounding effort.
The Seawolves leaned on a strong sophomore class and emerging freshman core throughout the season. Captains Jade Trueman, Skyler Tinker, and Emily Clark helped establish the team's competitive culture. SMCC showcased its depth with multiple players capable of impacting games on both ends of the floor, a key factor in sustaining momentum during its extended midseason winning streak.
