SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (6-1, 5-0 YSCC) extended its win streak with a 3-0 sweep of Great Bay Community College (25-8, 25-9, 25-16) on Friday night at The HUB.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Seawolves jumped on the board early in set one, as Lilly Andreasen (Gorham, Maine) powered kills on the outside and strung together a run at the service line that included two aces. Meryk Lewellen (Gorham, Maine) followed with four straight aces of her own to stretch the margin, and Sophia Davis (Wells, Maine) connected with Sivan Semo (Rollinsford, N.H.) in the middle to cap a 25–8 opener.
Set two was more of the same as SMCC built another early cushion behind Lewellen's attacking and the distribution of setters Davis and Yana Montell (Gardiner, Maine). Andreasen added a kill and ace during a mid-set burst, and Alyssa Rousseau (Yarmouth, Maine) chipped in with an ace to help finish a 25–9 frame.
Great Bay pushed back in the third with its strongest set of the night, briefly holding a 9–8 lead. The Seawolves responded out of a timeout with an extended service run from Kadie Madera (Sanford, Maine), who dropped in three straight aces to flip the score. Amala Rumma and Lewellen added late kills, and Rousseau closed it out from the line to complete the sweep, 25–16.
