Down to the Wire: Seawolves Seal Sweep Over Bengals
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (9-1, 6-0 YSCC) topped visiting University of Maine–Fort Kent, 3–0 (25–23, 26–24, 25–23) in a tightly contested non-conference matchup at The HUB on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Seawolves fought off the Bengals in three narrow sets, leaning on balanced offense and plays at the service line.
The opening frame saw Lilly Andreasen (Gorham, Maine) and Meryk Lewellen (Gorham, Maine) pace the attack early before Dalia Nelson (Kennebunk, Maine) sparked a 5–0 run with a service ace to pull SMCC ahead late. Sivan Semo(Rollinsford, N.H.) sealed it with a kill through the middle for a 25–23 first-set win.
Set two mirrored the first, as Yana Montell (Gardiner, Maine) distributed 15 assists in the frame, finding Lewellenand Mikayla Bellman (Silver Spring, Md.). Elise Kaplan (Cumberland, Maine) delivered two aces earlier in the set to help SMCC extend its lead to 2–0 after pushing past UMFK 26–24.
The third set saw both sides trade runs until Alyssa Rousseau (Yarmouth, Maine) produced back-to-back aces to give the Seawolves breathing room. The Bengals threatened a late comeback, closing to within one, but Amala Rummaconnected with Andreasen for match point, closing the sweep 25–23.
BY THE NUMBERS:
• Lilly Andreasen led SMCC with 10 kills, while Meryk Lewellen added seven.
• Yana Montell and Amala Rumma shared setting duties, combining for 30 assists and six aces.
• Dalia Nelson ran the defense with 19 digs.
