SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— Southern Maine Community College President Kristen Miller announced changes to administrative staffing at the College on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
These developments named Matt Richards, former Associate Dean of Athletics and Alumni Affairs, to the role of Interim Chief of Institutional Advancement and Engagement. Ethan Wells, who served as Associate Director of Athletics, will take on the duties of Interim Director of Athletics.
In his new position, Richards will be tasked with strengthening and expanding methods to engage students, alumni, and community partners while identifying opportunities to secure funding needed to support critical initiatives at the College.
Richards stated, “I’d like to thank Dr. Miller for her trust in me for this new position. This is a critical time for the College and our ability to enhance the experience for our students, business partners, and alumni is of the utmost importance. This position will also allow me the opportunity to take on some large athletic development pieces which, in turn, will better the experience for student-athletes and coaches alike.”
Richards continued, “Having worked alongside Ethan Wells for the past nine years, I’m extremely pleased that he will be managing the day-to-day operations of the athletics department. Our coaches and student-athletes are in great hands. He is and will continue to be a great leader of the department.”
Wells will manage the day-to-day operations of athletics and its nine program offerings effectively immediately.
Wells commented, “I’d like to thank Dr. Miller for the opportunity and Matt Richards for his mentorship through the years. I’m excited and ready to take this next step in my career, at the institution I’ve developed such an affinity for.”
