NORFOLK, Va.— In the third coaches’ poll released by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) on Friday, Dec. 16, both the men’s and women’s Southern Maine Community College basketball programs received national ranking among the top-20 Division II programs in the association.
Despite suffering its first loss of the season to top-ranked Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Wednesday, Dec. 14, the SMCC women remain second in the coaches’ poll for the third consecutive week, receiving 243 total points. The Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) was well-represented in this edition of the national rankings, also featuring New Hampshire Technical College (NHTI) ranking fourth, University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) coming in at eighth, College of St. Joseph’s (VT) (CSJ) ninth, and University of Maine at Machias (UMM) sneaking in at the 19th spot. The SMCC women are 3-1 against nationally-ranked teams this season.
Among the five YSCC teams making the poll on the men’s side, the SeaWolves dropped one spot to ninth, receiving 251 points, after last week’s loss to divisional rival CMCC. NHTI ranks highest among all conference programs at sixth, CSJ lands the 12th spot, and UMM rounds out the top-20. The SMCC men are 1-3 against nationally-ranked opponents.
For the third week in the row, Berkeley College (NY) is ranked as the USCAA’s top team receiving all 300 first place points.
