SMCC Baseball Announces Hiring of Josh Brister

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics Department has named Josh Brister as Assistant Baseball Coach beginning this fall 2017 season.

Prior to joining the SeaWolves staff, Brister served as the Assistant Coach at Warren Easton Charter High School (New Orleans, La.) helping the Eagles to a 19-9 season a year ago.

Brister’s head coaching career was a three-season tenure (2013-16) at Whale Branch Early College High School (Seabrook, S.C.) where he led the program to an overall record of 59-21. During his time at Whale Branch, Brister was named a two-time South Carolina Region 5A Baseball Coach of the Year (2013, 14), making back-to-back District 8 Championship appearances.

A native of Baton Rouge, La., Brister is a graduate of Belaire High School where he played three seasons on the varsity squad as both a pitcher and outfielder. Following high school, he spent eight years traveling abroad working for the U.S. government in aviation.

Brister is carrying a full course load in pursuit of his Education degree at SMCC.

Head Coach Jordan Yanni stated, “I’m excited to have Coach Brister on board. His experience in coaching at the high school level for several different programs will surely benefit the team in more ways than one. Josh fits the mold of the culture we are trying to build- this will be a contributing factor to our success.”

Brister weighed in, “I am both thankful and humbled to have been given this opportunity to join the SeaWolves Baseball staff. I am looking forward to the upcoming season.”
