ROXBURY, Mass.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team defeated the Bulldogs from Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) in both games of a non-conference doubleheader 3-1 and 14-1 on the road Sunday, Mar. 24.

Game 1: W, 3-1 | BOX

Sophomore captain Dylan Francoeur (Westbrook, Maine) took the hill for his second start this spring to enjoy a complete game performance. The hard-throwing righty allowed just one run over two hits and two walks, and struck out 12.

The SeaWolves provided the run support with two in the third inning when first-year Landon Henzley (Merrimack, N.H.) scored on a double steal attempt before first-year captain Peter Stauber (Cumberland, Maine) added to it with a solo jack to center field. Stauber crossed home again this time in the sixth as a result of a Bunker Hill fielding error.

The Bulldogs were able to get one back in the top half of the seventh when Pineda stole home but Francoeur fanned the next batter to get the third out and secure the two-run victory.

Game 2: W, 14-1 (5 innings) | BOX

The second of the double dip was more of a lopsided affair featuring first-year Iain McGaff (Boston, Mass.) who threw five innings of two-hit baseball. The rookie allowed just one run on a solo homerun in the first inning before punching out 10 Bulldogs.

Sophomore Cody Byrant (Somersworth, N.H.) and first-year Colby Gunter (Nashua, N.H.) combined for six RBIs and five runs on 6-6 from the dish, three as extra-base hits. The SeaWolves scored in each of the first four innings using 12 hits to score 14 runs—five players recorded multi-RBI games.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Dave Walsh reflected, "When you do three things in baseball it gives you the opportunity to complete in any game. [1] Pitchers throw 70 percent strikes, [2] defense makes the routine play, and [3] situationally hit. We did all three effectively which allowed us to leave Boston with two more wins."
