Former SMCC Men’s Basketball Player Jose Nouchanthavong Signs Professional Contract
THAILAND— Former Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men’s basketball player Jose Nouchanthavong has agreed to a professional contract to play in Thailand’s Basketball Super League.
THAILAND— Former Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball player Jose Nouchanthavong has agreed to a professional contract to play in Thailand's Basketball Super League.
Nouchanthavong, a 6'2'' guard, will join Luang Prabang, one of the 11 teams that compete in the men's division of the Thailand Basketball League founded in 2012.
A graduate of Westbrook High School, Nouchanthavong played for Coach Matt Richards as a member of the men's basketball program at SMCC for three seasons (2010-11, 2012-14). A decorated SeaWolf, Nouchanthavong ranks eighth all-time in rebounding amassing 434, second in assists with 470 (5.1 ast/g), and third in steals at 181. Nouchanthavong finished with 986 points, a Yankee Small College All-Conference (YSCC) selection, and a First Team United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-American.
Nouchanthavong went on to transfer to the University of Southern Maine and earn recognition as a 2016 Little East All-Conference selection averaging 18.2 points and 4.5 assists in 26 games.
Three others getting their start with SMCC men's basketball have signed professional contracts—Paul Holland, Jacob Loveridge, and Ville Wuorenjuuri.
