SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men’s basketball team was defeated 80-62 by the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) first place Lynx from NHTI on Thursday, Nov. 30.

The Lynx entered play averaging 97 points per game— first among all conference opponents. By execution of the game plan, the SeaWolves held the opposition to just 33 points in the first half. First-year Gregory Trinidad (Lawrence, Mass.) led SMCC with 10 points as the home team trailed by three going into the break.

First-year Willie Brown (Willimantic, Conn.) scored a quick bucket out of the half before the Lynx strung together a 13-2 run to gain separation. The SeaWolves pulled within seven with 12:10 left, but couldn’t keep pace with NHTI’s hot second half shooting— 52.6 percent from the floor and 45.5 from beyond the arc.

NHTI’s Deric Jackson (Salisbury, Md.) went 5-8 from downtown as part of a game high 21 points, followed by J’Quavious Thurman’s (Monticello, Ga.) 20 on 9-15 shooting. Brown led the SeaWolves with 16 points as junior co-captain Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, N.H.) notched his fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 17 rebounds in front of the home crowd.

The Lynx remain unbeaten in YSCC play (7-0) and improve to 8-1 overall. SMCC falls to 3-2 in conference action, 7-3 on the season.

The SeaWolves finish a six-game conference stretch at the University of Maine at Machias on Saturday, Dec. 2. SMCC has won seven of its previous 10 meetings with the Clippers, 4-1 on the road during that span. Tip off from Machias is set for 3 p.m.
