RANDOLPH, Vt. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team finished the first semester on the road, where they faced Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) opponent Vermont State University at Randolph on Saturday, Dec. 14.
The Knights would take an early lead and never look back. Vermont guards Jaylon Calvin and Xzavier Ivey combined for 29 points in the first half, to help their team to a 44-15 lead at the break.
The Seawolves' offense began to find its rhythm out of the locker room, powered by Charlie Houghton's (Dixfield, Maine) 16 second-half points. Despite, Vermont stayed steady with a 37-point half to ride to victory.
Individual performances featured Houghton with 22 points and six boards. Vermont's Calvin recorded an impressive 17 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds. Ivey would knock down five threes on nine attempts.
The Seawolves fall to 0-12 overall, 0-7 in conference play. The Knights improved to 6-8 on the year, 3-3 in YSCC action.
The Seawolves will return to action after the holiday break to host the University of Connecticut at Avery Point (NJCAA) on Saturday, Jan 4. Tip-off inside the HUB Athletics Building is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
