Lady Seawolves Pick Up Two Wins Against UMPI
South Portland - This afternoon the Lady Seawolves played at home for the first time this spring in double header action against the Lady Owls of the University of Maine - Presque Isle. They gave the home crowd quite a show beating the Owls 8-1 in the first game and coming from behind in game two, chalking up seven runs in the sixth inning, to grab the 9-6 victory.

They gave the home crowd quite a show beating the Owls 8-2 in the first game and coming from behind in game two, chalking up seven runs in the sixth inning, to grab the 9-6 victory.
In game one leadoff batter Anna Allard (Parnsonsfield, ME) put the Seawolves on the board in the first after stealing second and third before getting hit in by catcher Roberta Trafton (Corinth, ME). The Owls tied up the game in the second inning but the Seawolves answered in the third scoring three runs and Allard tacked on one more run in the fourth to put the Seawolves on top 5-1. In the sixth inning, after batting 1.000 for the game, Allard was stealing third when an attempted throw out by UMPI catcher Kathryn Patenaude (Presque Isle, ME) hit her in the face forcing her to leave the game. Lady Seawolves' Emelia Columbe (Buxton, ME) subbed in for Allard and scored on the following pitch. The Seawolves went on to score two more runs in the sixth and gave up one in the seventh to triumph 8-2. Seawolves' pitcher Charlotte Lewis (Chatham, NH) gave up nine hits and had nine strikeouts.
In the first inning of game two the Lady Seawolves got the first two Lady Owl batters out, but with two down the Owls found their rythmn getting four consecutive hits and scoring three runs before the Seawolves could get the third out. With the Lady Seawolves trailing 6-2 going into the sixth inning Allard made her return and it was a whole new ball game. The Lady Seawolves held the Owls scoreless in the sixth and then hit three doubles and three singles to score seven runs and take the 9-6 lead that they would hold on to until the end of the contest. In game two third baseman Shannon Blanchard (Windsor, ME) went four for four at the plate, hitting three doubles, a single and scoring two runs.
The Lady Seawolves will be back on the field on Wednesday April 16th at home against Northern Essex for double header action starting at 4pm. With the two wins they picked up today the Lady Seawolves are now sporting an 8-14 overall record while staying 3-4 in conference play.
