South Portland - This afternoon the Lady Seawolves took the season series with the Lady Knights of Northern Essex by a score of 23-4. Earlier the teams split, with SMCC taking game one 4-2 and then NECC taking game two, 2-1.
The Seawolves jumped out to an early 10-0 lead after one inning of play thanks in part to a three RBI double by first baseman Kathryn Gilio (Hampden, ME). SMCC tacked on five more runs in the second, taking the 15-0 lead, before the Lady Knights responded with four runs in the third due to back to back singles by the first two batters and a two RBI double by the Knights' second baseman. Four runs wouldn't be enough to overcome the large Seawolves lead as SMCC walked away with a win in five innings.
Charlotte Lewis (Chatham, NH), Abigail Nielsen (North Yarmouth, ME) and Anna Allard (Parsonsfield, ME) led the Seawolves with a combined hitting effort of 11-12 at the plate. The trio combined for 10 RBIs and each scored four runs. Allard included an RBI homerun that cruised over the fence in center right.
The Seawolves are now 7-11 overall and will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at home at 4pm against Central Maine CC.
