Lady SeaWolves Sweep In Home Opener

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team defeated the Warriors of Massasoit Community College in both games of its afternoon doubleheader and spring home opener on Saturday, April 8. The Lady SeaWolves completed a come-from-behind win in the first game 12-10 and put together another offensive showing in the second game, winning 10-2 in five innings.

First-year Sarah Guimond (East Waterboro, Maine) pitched 11 of the 12 innings on the day and earned both wins. First-year Kaylah Abdul (South Berwick, Maine) collected seven RBIs, scored four runs, and swiped four bases.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Ray Magnant reflected, "I was extremely pleased with the way this team played today in both games—in all areas. I was most impressed with the way the ladies kept their heads up and fought back when we fell behind in the late innings of game one. That's the sign of a good team!"

SMCC improves to 2-2 on the season as Massasoit begins its season 0-2.

The Lady SeaWolves will play host to SUNY Delhi in another non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 12. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
