Coach Magnant To Be Inducted To Biddeford HS HOF
BIDDEFORD, Maine— Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Head Softball Coach Ray Magnant will be inducted into the Biddeford High School Athletics Hall of Fame on Thursday, Jan. 11 as a three-sport athlete and coach.
BIDDEFORD, Maine— Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Head Softball Coach Ray Magnant will be inducted into the Biddeford High School Athletics Hall of Fame on Thursday, Jan. 11 as a three-sport athlete and coach.
A Biddeford native, Magnant played three varsity seasons as a member of the football, men’s basketball, and baseball teams at Biddeford from 1987-90. Serving as team captain for five seasons collective, Magnant earned numerous accolades as a standout athlete in all three sports:
- Football: First-Team All-State, All-Conference selection, defensive back (1988, 89)
- Football: 12 interceptions (1988), Team MVP (1989, 90)
- Basketball: All-Defensive Team (1988)
- Baseball: All-State, All-Conference (1989, 90)
- Baseball: .350 BA, 23 SB, 6-0 W-L, 1.17 ERA (1990)
- Steve White Award, most outstanding athlete (1990)
Following high school, Magnant played for the Maine Sabers, as part of the semi-professional Eastern Football League for two seasons (1993, 94).
Magnant’s coaching career took off at Massabesic High School as Head Softball Coach from 2012-2014. He moved to his alma mater and led Biddeford’s High School varsity softball team to a 2016 Class A State Championship. Magnant currently serves as the Head Softball Coach at SMCC guiding the Lady SeaWolves to a 16-5 record a season ago and voted Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Coach of the Year.
