SMCC Softball To Offer Pitching & Hitting/Fielding Clinic

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball program and Head Coach Ray Magnant will hold an indoor pitching and hitting/fielding clinic inside the HUB Gymnasium on the South Portland campus every Sunday for four sessions beginning January 21st and finishing February 18th (no clinic February 4th). The clinic will be open to girls in grades 3-12.

Instruction will be provided by 2017 Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Coach of the Year Ray Magnant and Assistant Coach Dennis Howe as well as members of the 2017-18 SMCC softball team. The clinic will offer instruction in the following areas:

Pitching Clinic

  • Basic fundamentals, pitching drills will be taught to beginners
  • Velocity, location, and movement will be taught to advanced pitchers

Pitchers are strongly encouraged to provide their own catcher (no charge). Catchers must supply their own equipment.

Hitting/Fielding Clinic

  • Throwing/fielding drills
  • Hitting/tee/soft toss/drill stations

Cost: $50 pitching sessions, $50 hitting/fielding sessions, $80 for both clinics
Location: 2 Fort Road, South Portland, Maine 04106
Time: Pitching 5-6 pm (Grades 3-12), Hitting/Fielding 6:15-7:30 pm (Grades 3-12)

All proceeds of the clinic will help fund the team's travel expenses to spring training in Florida in March.
