SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team defeated the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) double dip, both by the eight-run rule, at Graves Athletic Field on Tuesday, April 16.
Game 1: W, 10-1 (5 innings) | BOX
Sophomore captain Meranda Martin (Richmond, Maine) took the circle in her sixth start of the season to toss a complete game and record a career-high nine strikeouts. Martin allowed just four hits, one walk, and one unearned run to collect her fourth win of the year.
Martin supported her cause with three hits including an inside-the-park homerun to lead off the first inning. She finished with three runs and a stolen base. Sophomore Morgan Boyle (Portland, Maine) connected for a two-out, 2-RBI double to left field in the bottom of the fifth to put her team ahead by the run-rule and conclude game one—part of a 2-hit, 3-RBI performance.
SMCC pushed runs across in every inning but the third to hand CMCC's Megan Theriault the loss.
