Tony Martin Tabbed Assistant Softball Coach

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics Department has announced the hiring of Tony Martin as Assistant Softball Coach.

Martin began his coaching career in the high school ranks first as an assistant in 2010 and then Head Coach of the Richmond High School varsity softball program in 2015, a position he continues to serve. During his coaching tenure at Richmond, the Bobcats have won eight Southern Maine regional championships and five state championships. In addition, Martin sustained an 88-game winning streak—another major coaching achievement at Richmond.

The Richmond native has also coached for the Southern Maine Flame, Maine’s premier ASA fastpitch organization, both as an assistant and Head Coach in 2016.

Last season, Martin served SMCC as a volunteer assistant to Head Coach Ray Magnant and helped the Lady SeaWolves to their highest win total since the 2008-09 season—20-15 overall. He will return to staff in the fall as Assistant Coach.

Martin stated, “I’m excited for what the season has in store in hopes to build on last season’s success. This will be an easy transition for the program and I’m very much looking forward to coaching Ray.”

Regarding his hire, Coach Magnant commented, “I’m extremely pleased to have Coach Tony join our softball program. His passion and positive attitude is second to none. Tony brings a great deal of experience and knowledge to the team and will continue to be a tremendous presence on staff!”
