AUBURN, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team produced a 4-1 road victory over #2 seed Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Saturday evening in the YSCC East Division Quarterfinals, advancing to the conference semifinals for the second straight season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Seawolves wasted no time putting pressure on the hosts, scoring three goals in the opening 27 minutes to take full control of the match.
Senior captain Annabelle Fournier (Saco, Maine) opened the scoring in the 5th minute, hammering a left-footed strike into the top corner after Jocelyn Civiello (Sanford, Maine) created the chance with a pair of attempts inside the area.
Civiello doubled the lead in the 25th minute when she finished off a feed from first-year Isabella Tanis (Bangor, Maine).
Just two minutes later, Tanis got on the scoresheet herself. Civiello served a cross into the box and found Tanis to nod home SMCC's third.
The Mustangs pulled one back just before halftime, capitalizing on a second-chance effort to make it 3-1 going into the break.
The final goal came in the 53rd minute. Amya Braley (Pittsfield, Maine) delivered a long-range free kick that sailed past the CMCC defense, setting up Civiello for her second goal of the night.
