PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team wrapped up a great 2025 campaign with a 1-1 showing in pool play at the USCAA National Championship Tournament, held at Montour Junction Sports Complex in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Seawolves closed their season with a 10-4-3 record, highlighted by an underdog run to the YSCC Tournament Championship, and a showing on the national stage.
GAME 1: SMCC 0, Cincinnati-Clermont 2 – November 14
In their tournament opener, SMCC faced off against University of Cincinnati–Clermont squad and held their own in a hard-fought 2-0 loss.
The Cougars pressured early, testing sophomore goalkeeper Aubrey Gilbert (Farmingdale, Maine) with 14 first-half shots. Gilbert was up to the task, making multiple diving saves to keep the Seawolves in it. Despite her 17-save effort — a season high — SMCC conceded in the 14th and 69th minutes, both goals scored by Clermont's Kaylee Rose.
SMCC's best chances came through Annabelle Fournier (Saco, Maine) and Jocelyn Civiello (Sanford, Maine), with Fournier forcing a save in the 11th minute. The Seawolves were limited to just two total shots in the match, one on goal.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Gilbert made 17 saves on 19 shots on goal.
GAME 2: SMCC 1, Penn State Schuylkill 0 – November 15
In the second and final pool play match, SMCC picked up a 1-0 shutout win over Penn State Schuylkill behind a standout performance from Civiello and a clean sheet from Gilbert.
The game-winner came late in the first half. In the 43rd minute, Isabella Tanis (Bangor, Maine) slid a pass through the defense to Civiello, who took a touch and buried her shot to the far post for her team-leading nineth goal of the season.
The Seawolves filled the stat sheet with 18 shots (12 on target) and controlled the tempo throughout. Gilbert made four saves to earn her seventh shutout of the season, and the SMCC defense — anchored by Tiana Salazar (Windham, Maine) and Amya Braley (Pittsfield, Maine) — limited the opponents to just a handful of attempts.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Civiello scored the game's lone goal, assisted by Tanis.
- Fournier led the team with four shots (three on goal).
- Gilbert posted her seventh shutout with four saves.
